Why Sliding Scale?

Allandale Farm has always been a place for community building, education, and fun. By offering sliding scale payments for select community events, we hope to greet even more members of our community at on-the-farm workshops, field walks and and other gatherings throughout the season.

How does it work?

For now, only select community events will be offered on a sliding scale. We hope to expand this offering in the future as we build a more robust community events calendar.

  • If an event is offered on a sliding scale, the event description will make note of it.

  • In the description, we will name the true cost of a ticket, which factors in all the expenses of running the event.

  • We will also name the scale (e.g. $5-$40). While you are welcome to pay more than the upper limit, the lower limit is the minimum required to attend the event.

  • Sliding Up? When you reach checkout, you’ll see the true cost ticket price listed and a box to write a “Pay What You Want Additional Amount”. The true cost ticket price will be added to the number in that box to calculate your total cost.

  • Sliding Down? Scroll down to access coupon codes and instructions for use.

Wondering if you should slide? Consider this: A sliding scale is a tool for building economic justice. If implemented effectively, everyone pays a similar percentage of their income for the same products or services. Can you comfortably meet your monthly expenses? Consider sliding up. Are you choosing between registering for a farm event and another expense? Consider sliding down. It’s helpful to consider both your class background and earning power when choosing your payment.
