May 2013Welcome!Spring is rolling along and the garden center is full to bursting. The beginning of the month will bring perennial plants from our nursery, with more unusual and native choices than ever before. Roses and other flowering shrubs (including tropicals!) will be on the scene for Mother’s Day. By the middle of the month, tomato starts will be ready to join the deep offering of veggie seedlings already available, with eggplants, peppers, cucumbers and more close on their heels. Our spring harvest has been great. The raised beds in our hoop houses gave us an early jump (with all that sunshine pitching in) to provide loads of beautiful lettuces, spinach, mesclun mix, hakurei turnips, chives and radishes. Microgreens, spring dug parsnips, pea tendrils and scallions are also making regular appearances. Occasional cameos include mushrooms and asparagus. We are looking forward to more field crops beginning to roll in as spring progresses.
