July 2009Welcome! The garden center and farmstand are open and in full swing. Please note our expanded hours. We are now open from 10am-6:30pm on weekdays and from 9am-6pm on weekends. Upcoming EventsWe are planning lots of great workshops and events for 2009. Already this year we have hosted a series of seeding events, and there is more in store. Check our website regularly for updates. You can also join our email list to receive the most current information about what's going on at the farm. Garden CenterOur first planting of perennials are full, beautiful and ready to be planted. We have a great selection of pansies and other cool tolerant plants that are also ready for window boxes or beds now. Vegetable starts and seeds are fully stocked and we have greatly increased our selection of edible fruit plants, both large and small. Apples, peaches, pears, nectarines, plums, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries are all in abundance. The 4 inch pots in which we are growing our annual plants have changed. We've switched from the old petroleum based plastic pots to coir pots made of coconut fibers. We use many thousands of pots in this size. Not only are the coir pots far more environmentally friendly, but the roots on our annuals have never looked healthier. Way to go mother nature! As far as pots for you to plant in, we have a full selection of EcoSource pots, made of rice starch. The colors are beautiful and they are very durable. We also have a great collection of clay pots manufactured by Burley Clay in Ohio. The quality and aesthetic in these U.S. made pots is outstanding. While the first harvest is still many weeks away, the fields are being prepped and the first lettuce has already been planted out early this month. It's fast and furious from here on in. While the farmstand awaits the arrival of our own sweet harvest, there's plenty of good stuff in store. Clear Flour Bread and Ever So Humble Pies are here along with local honey and handmade mozerella from Somerville. That's just a sampling. Come on in to see the full array of local foods in the store. See you on the farm! Your friends at Allandale Farm |
